Spring Cup

The result of the first senior competition of this year, took place on Monday, 11th. April 2011.

The Gosforth Seniors section is a vibrant and very welcoming part of Gosforth Golf Club (GGC), operating within a constitution agreed by the GGC management committee. This truly friendly and well-organised section has seen a steady growth in its numbers now comprise of around 95 members.  Joining (for club members over age 60) is easy and costs just £5 per year.
Our twice weekly competitive ‘stableford ‘ events are held on Monday & Thursday mornings and are always well attended.  Nine hole events are also organised, principally for our older members.  These games are always followed by a friendly get together in the Club House, where a daily ‘sweep’ is presented and refreshments are readily available.  Each Senior member has his handicap updated on a weekly basis to reflect their performance.
The Seniors also have around 10 formal monthly competitions, mainly Stableford with some being ‘stroke play.  These competitions attract prizes and winners receive trophies presented at the end of each session.  Knockout ‘Calcutta’ singles & pairs competitions are also run along with season long ‘Eclectic’ competitions which prove very popular.
The ‘Seniors’ elect their own Captain, Vice-Captain & Committee, and hold an annual Seniors Captains day.  The Seniors Captain also leads a Senior team representing GGC in a highly competitive Northumberland Seniors League.
Our annual Senior ‘Open’ regularly attracts large numbers of visiting players from other clubs and the proceeds help to finance Senior section activities & we have also recently introduced a Seniors Invitation event which has proved very successful.
An annual highlight is the presentation of trophies which is combined with a Christmas lunch & the Annual General Meeting.
